The Cormorant - Kara Kazanoff

Like a fish, though more of a bird

(We are all of that feather)

But the cormorant

Wants so badly to have scales

      He eats them.

See him flop on the far bank,

Shivering, green-eyed and wet

He’ll hide his lot, as if to forget

       Then spread wide his wings

       And make it visible:

“I am a bird, I am so miserable!”
